Most panel upgrades we do in Dieppe aren't fixing something broken. They're making room. Homes built through the subdivision boom got services sized for how the house was used in 2005, and a finished basement, a heat pump, and an EV in the driveway have since used up every spare slot. TLB Electric upgrades Dieppe services to 200A and leaves the panel labeled and with room to grow.
Service upgrades from 100A to 200A including the mast, meter base, and grounding, or panel replacement on its own. A load calculation comes first to establish whether an upgrade is actually needed. NB Power coordination, permits, and TISNB inspection are handled, with spare capacity planned for future circuits.
Dieppe's rapid residential growth means a large share of its housing is 15 to 25 years old: new enough to be wired to reasonable code, old enough that the service was sized before EVs, heat pumps, and finished basements became standard.
Dieppe is a different panel-upgrade market than the older parts of Greater Moncton. In Moncton’s West End we’re often replacing something genuinely unsafe. In Dieppe, the panel is usually fine. It’s simply full. Every breaker slot is occupied, the basement got finished, someone wants a hot tub, and there’s nowhere to land the circuit.
That distinction matters because it changes what the right answer is. A full panel doesn’t automatically mean you need a new service. Sometimes a subpanel is the correct and much cheaper solution. Sometimes tandem breakers are permitted in that panel and sometimes they aren’t. And sometimes the honest answer is that the 100A service genuinely can’t carry what you’re planning and needs to go to 200A. We run the load calculation first and tell you which of those three you’re in.
Where we do recommend the full upgrade is when several things are stacking up at once. A homeowner in Fox Creek or one of the newer streets off Amirault adding a Level 2 EV charger, a ductless heat pump, and a basement suite over the same couple of years will hit the ceiling on a 100A service. Doing all of it on one upgrade is far cheaper than three separate visits, and it means the mast and meter base only get touched once.
Dieppe’s older core around Chartersville is the exception. The housing there predates the subdivision growth by decades, and the panels reflect it: smaller services, older equipment, and in some cases the original panel still in place. Those jobs look more like the work we do in older Moncton neighbourhoods, and we approach them the same way: assess the whole system, not just the panel.
Upgrades involve a planned power interruption while NB Power disconnects and reconnects the service. We schedule that in advance and give you a realistic window, rather than leaving you guessing how long the house will be without power.
